We are less than a month away from our trip to Disney World, which means it’s time to start packing. Isn’t it a little early, you ask? According to every blog post I’ve read, the answer is NO!
I’m a very easy-going traveller, and I’m accustomed to packing the night before and heading on my way. But a week at Disney World for a family of four is a far different story.
There’s a lot to think about. We have our flights booked, our insurance is purchased, and our Disney World itinerary is all planned. The only thing left to do is pack. We all need extra walking shoes, swimsuits, lots of sunscreen and whatnot, but that’s pretty standard. What isn’t standard, is what we’re going to put in our day packs.
I loathe the thought of carrying around a ton of stuff in the Florida heat, but there’s no getting around the fact that a few things are necessary. So a Disney World day pack is a must. My goal is to fit it all into one small bag that we can take turns carrying.
Here’s what I’ve come up with so far
5 Things to Put in a Disney World Day Pack
Rain ponchos – Orlando in August. It’s a definite rain risk. From what I understand it’s pretty much a guarantee that it will rain at some point every day. If it were just me I would get wet and deal with it. But it might not be so easy with a 10 & 13-year-old, and I don’t want everyone to get uncomfortable and want to leave. Since summer storms tend to pass quickly it will be better to throw on the ponchos and keep going.
Hand-held fans – I’m pretty good with the heat as a general rule, but central Florida in August might be more than even I can handle. And I know it will be tough on my husband and the kids. I found these hand-held misting fans on Amazon and I’m bringing one for each of us. I’m hoping they provide a little relief while we’re waiting in line or making our way around the parks.
Ziploc bags – Back to the issue of rain. I don’t like to carry much with me in the parks, but we’re all going to have our phones (for the sake of the cameras) and a few other things. The Ziploc bags will ensure they stay dry if it starts to rain or if we find ourselves on a water ride. I’ll take them out of the box and just bring a few, but I think it’s important.
Portable charger – I hate the idea of using my phone at the parks, but since I’ll be using it for photos as well as the My Disney Experience App, I don’t want to risk it dying. With a portable charger, I won’t have to worry about finding an outlet and sitting around waiting for my phone to charge.
Non-drowsy Gravol – I’m old. It’s a fact. And I just can’t handle rides the way I used to. But I sooooo want to. I can skip the teacups and some of the other spinning rides, but I really want to do Flights of Passage, Tower of Terror and some others. And I’m not about to let the fact that I’m old(ish) stop me! I’m coming prepared.
This list is far from exhaustive, but these are 5 things that I normally wouldn’t bring and I’m in danger of forgetting. What do you think? Is there something you had in your Walt Disney World day pack that I should be bringing? Or something you wish you had brought? Feel free to let me know in the comments. I need all the help I can get!
