Good Things Come to Those Who Wait: Pottery Barn Edition

I’ve worked in the interior design industry for a long time, and I have an admission to make. Something no one in the design industry is ever supposed to think, let alone say out loud.

I want my house to look like the Pottery Barn catalogue.

I know, I know. It’s too cookie cutter. There isn’t enough individuality. It doesn’t tell a unique enough story.

I don’t care.

For years I’ve spent Sunday afternoons and weekday lunch breaks wandering through my local Pottery Barn or flipping through the catalogue trying to figure out how to replicate the feeling of warm comfort and coziness without bankrupting myself. I’ve never been able to afford major pieces of furniture but over time I’ve collected pillow cases, lamp shades and other bits and bobs to give my home that PB flair.

For over 10 years I’ve been coveting a set of floral curtains. Although I’ve adored them all this time I’ve never felt comfortable handing over several hundred dollars for window treatments when I knew I could get something cheaper at Target or Homesense. And get something cheaper I did! Many times over. Because no matter how much I liked what I found, they could never compare to the Pottery Barn beauties I truly loved. So after a year or so I would have to replace them. As a result I’ve probably spent a lot more than if I had just bought the PB beauties in the first place.

Last week I was perusing the Pottery Barn website – as I’ve been known to do – and what should I find but the Cynthia Palampore Pole Pocket Drape on SALE. It’s been 10 years since I fist saw them and I still love them as much as I did then. Before I could overthink it I whipped out my credit card and purchased two.

It’s a little silly, I know. I should have bought them years ago. But last week seeing them again, and on sale to boot, it finally felt like the right time. They’re scheduled to arrive in two weeks and I can’t wait to hang them in my bedroom.
