Nurseries Fit for Grownups

A little while ago, Erin and Ben Napier of HGTV’s Home Town revealed the nursery they designed for their baby Helen (you can read all about it on the HGTV site). I’ve never been one to get excited by nurseries, but this one caught me off guard. As far as I’m concerned it doesn’t look like a traditional nursery at all. In fact, if you were to exchange the handcrafted crib for a Queen bed I could move right in.

From the green walls, to the botanicals prints, to the Persian rug, to the amazing curtains – I want it all. It’s so nice to see a baby’s room that doesn’t fall into the same cutesy trap we’re so used to seeing (not that there’s anything wrong with that if it’s your thing…it’s just not mine).

I decided to search out other nurseries to see if other people feel the way I do. I was very pleased to see that plenty of people out there have opted for moodier nurseries with less traditional decor.

The one thing all of these rooms have in common is pattern – mostly by way of wallpaper. There’s something about this one that, even though it’s clearly floral, reminds me of the solar system. Love.

This room is still pretty thanks to the lovely pink canopy, and I love the woodland themed wallpaper. It’s still for kids, but not (here’s that word again) cutesy.

How amazing are those wings?! Paired with the giant bloom decals and rose gold crib? I’m speechless.

I love the modern global take on this room, and I’m fully prepared to copy this wall treatment. I don’t have a baby, but I’ll find somewhere to put it!

I guess I’m not the only one who isn’t into traditional pink, blue and yellow nurseries. People are thinking outside the box and following their design instincts – and I love it!
