In my current home I do not have an entryway. Or at least, what I do have is so small and cramped that it feels like I don’t have an entryway. In fact, the tiny entryway that I do have is so tiny and difficult to maneuver through that it would actually be easier to not have one at all. Coming into my house and attempting to take off boots and coats = instant frustration.
At night I dream of spacious entryways with coat closets and storage. While I’m at work I daydream of beautiful runners and pretty wallpaper. When I’m driving down the street I think about overhead fixtures and sculptural wall sconces. Obsess much? You could say that. But if you had an entryway like mine you would understand.
So what do I dream about? I’ve gathered some examples of what I think constitutes a welcoming and (somewhat) practical entryway. Size-wise I’m still dreaming, but when it comes to style, colour scheme, and practicality, these are at the top of my list.

As you can see these entryways differ in some ways, but the overall sense of warmth and welcome is the same. It’s exactly this feeling that I want to create when I get my next house and have a chance to renovate and redecorate.
