We need to replace our front door and I’m dead set on wood (or at least something that looks like wood). Our house is grey with black trim, and I’m convinced that a wood front door (soon to be followed by a wood garage door) will add some much needed warmth. We’ll also have sidelights on either side of the door, and I’m trying to decide how I want them to look.

Here are my top inspiration pics.

I’ve had my eye on this one for some time. It’s simple, warm, and achieves the look I’m going for. It’s slightly more modern than I would have thought I would like, but it really jumped out at me. The sidelights are very simple, but I think they compliment the door nicely.

This is a more recent discovery. I was scrolling through Pinterest the other day and it popped up in my feed. I like that the wood pieces are larger, and I love the fact that the sidelights have the grid lines. They make the entire entryway appear wider.

This one is much more traditional than the others, which I like, but it’s missing the black details, which would really tie into the rest of the house.

Excuse the Christmas decor on this one (which is lovely btw).It’s a little less modern than the others, which is a big plus for me, but the issue is the large window. It looks beautiful, but my front door looks directly into my kitchen. It’s not a big deal during the day, but I don’t like the idea of people walking past my house at night and seeing us washing the dishes in our pajamas.

Speaking of glass, here’s how I’m going to address the issue of the sidelights. Frosted glass is an option, but I’ve never been crazy about the way it looks. Nor do I like other types of privacy glass. So we’re going to have some custom roman shades made that we’ll install above each of the sidelights. They will be very simple – likely black, and we’ll use them at night so people can’t see inside. I can’t find any photos that demonstrate this look, but I’m convinced it will look good.

Anyway, that’s what I’m thinking. We want to do this in the next couple of months so I’ll have to make a decision soon. I’ll be sure to post a pic once it’s done!
