Is Ruggable Any Good

SPOILER ALERT – the answer is yes.

Since I moved into my new house about two and a half years ago, I’ve been using some old rugs that were saved from my grandfather’s house about 30 years ago. They’re big and heavy and dark red. Very dark red. In another setting, they might look great, but they’ve never been my favorite.

I’ve wanted new rugs for quite some time but didn’t want to spend the money until I knew exactly what I wanted. Truthfully, I’ve made mistakes with rugs in the past. I’ve learned a lot about choosing area rugs, but I still struggle with color. Years ago I bought one and got it home to find that it looked horrendous with my chairs. But it was a final sale and I was stuck. The experience scarred me a bit and I’ve been hesitating to pull the trigger this time.

Anyway, a few weeks ago a Ruggable ad popped up in my Pinterest feed and I loved what I saw. So I checked it out and was thrilled to see the Kamran Coral rug (one of their Best Sellers!). It was exactly what I’d been looking for. A somewhat traditional style with soft colors, and a little bit of a distressed look. I sent photos to my design-savvy friends, talked to my husband, and we all agreed that it looked great.

How is Ruggable Different?

I won’t go into great detail here because you can check it out on their website, but basically, Ruggable rugs come in two pieces. The lightweight rug cover and a nonslip pad that goes underneath. The cover is stain-resistant and washable, which is why I was comfortable choosing a lighter-colored rug. With kids and a big dog, mess happens, and I was nervous about anything that might show it.

Since I’ve never seen one in real life I asked around and it turns out that two colleagues of mine have them and they swear by them. They couldn’t say enough good things, so I figured I didn’t have much to lose. I ordered a 9×12 rug for my living room, and to compliment it, a 5×7 of the Celestine Coral Rug rug for the dining room.

The Result

They took about two weeks to arrive, which was more than reasonable given that they ship from the USA and I’m in Canada. When I received them I immediately rolled up the old ones and put them down. Now I have to say, the 9×12 wasn’t the easiest to manage. I couldn’t completely empty the room, so I struggled a bit, but ultimately I got it down. (As you can see, my helper wasn’t helping much.)

I should mention that the rug pad was significantly smaller than the rug. I saw on the website that it should be slightly smaller to account for shrinkage, but mine was over a foot short on all sides, making me think that they sent the wrong one. I should have followed up, but since the edges are all pretty much under furniture, I couldn’t be bothered. (I’m a bit lazy that way.). But the dining room rug was absolutely perfect.

Is Ruggable any Good?

So to answer the question is Ruggable any good, the answer is 100% yes. They are gorgeous and I couldn’t be happier. I got the regular rug pad, and it’s soft enough for us. I haven’t put it in the washing machine yet, but so far the style actually helps hide the dirt pretty well. I’m very, very happy.
